Though tickets for the Russell Tribunal on Palestine (RToP), taking place in New York City, 6-7 October, have completely sold out, the event will be accessible to a far broader audience. A live video stream of the proceedings will be carried by Free Speech TV and on the Russell Tribunal’s Web site starting at 10am each morning and ending by 6pm.

In addition, volunteers (myself included), will be providing extensive real-time coverage via the RToP’s official Twitter feed, @RussellTribunal . An additional Twitter feed, @RToPLive, will be in place in the event that the primary account exceeds the threshold Twitter imposes for the maximum number of tweets in a set period, which can result in the temporary suspension of the account’s ability to tweet (AKA Twitter jail).

Participants in the Russell Tribunal’s New York City session include: Pink Floyd’s singer/songwriter Roger Waters, public intellectual Noam Chomsky, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, Israeli historian Ilan Pappé, Black civil rights icon Angela Davis and many others. The Electronic Intifada blogger Ben White also will be providing testimony.

The Russell Tribunal on Palestine is an International People’s Tribunal launched in 2009 following Israel’s bloody assault on Gaza, bringing together legal experts, scholars, activists and other people of note to expose the reality of Israel’s 45-year-old military occupation and colonization of Palestinian land. Previous sessions have been held in Barcelona, London and Cape Town. Past hearings have addressed, respectively, European Union support for Israel, the complicity of corporations in the occupation of Palestine and the question of whether Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid.

The fourth session, to be held on October 6-7, 2012 in the Great Hall of New York City’s Cooper Union (7 East 7th Street, Manhattan), will be the final in the series.

There has been a very effective and telling mainstream media blackout on the Russell Tribunal even though it is being hosted in NY. I wonder if coverage will completely denied or if the MSM will pick it up over the next few days...

First Jewish presidential contender welcomes Russell Tribunal on Palestine findings
http://www.jillstein.org/first...
Excerpt:
Jill Stein, the first Jewish contender for the presidency of the United States of America, called today for the international community to heed the findings of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine and to take immediate steps to ensure that Israel comply with its responsibilities according to international human rights law. Specifically, Dr. Stein reiterated that as president, she would require Israel, as well as other nations, to uphold international law and human rights as a condition for further U.S. aid. In particular, this would require Israel to end human rights abuses, and respect the rights of Palestinians and other peoples living under Israeli rule.

“The Green Party of the United States has long been a leader in standing up for the rights of all peoples living under military rule and racial apartheid, and the Palestinian people are no exception,” said Dr. Stein. “I am proud that our party platform reflects our universal and consistent commitment to human rights.”
